Historic Preservation

Living in the GE Realty Plot means being part of one of Schenectady’s most significant historic neighborhoods. If you are planning exterior work on your home or would like to learn more about preserving your property’s historic character, these resources are an excellent place to start.

  • Historic Resource Commission – Information on historic districts, Certificates of Approval, meeting schedules, applications, and design review. The Historic Resource Commission reviews proposed exterior changes to locally designated historic properties to help preserve Schenectady’s architectural heritage.
  • Historic Resources & Preservation Guides – Includes Historic Design Guidelines, district maps, preservation briefs, and additional resources for owners of historic homes.

Historic Tax Credits & Financial Incentives

Owners of eligible historic properties may qualify for valuable tax incentives when undertaking certified rehabilitation projects.
